The Experience
Meet at the hotel lobby in the morning and head up to the Kinabalu Park. Geologically, Kinabalu Park is a granite intrusion formed 15million years ago and thrust upward one million years ago by tectonic movements and shaped by forces that continue to define its landscape.
Despite its geological youth it is exceptionally high in species with living relics of natural vegetation remaining, over 93% of the Park area.The altitudinal range of the property,152m-4,095m,presents a wide array of habitats from rich tropical lowland and hill rainforest (35% of the park) to tropical montane forest (37%),and sub-alpine forest and scrub at the highest elevations.Ultramafic (serpentine) rocks cover about 16% of the park and have vegetation specific to this substrate.The park has been identified as a Centre of Plant Diversity for Southeast Asia.
A visit to Kinabalu Park will never be perfect without swinging by Poring Hot Springs which was built by the Japanese during the world war the second. Situated 40km(25miles) slightly northeast from the parks HQ. Poring is located in the lowlands ~ a contrast to the parks HQ De-stress and soak muscles in the spring’s hot sulphuric minerals, deemed to have healing properties and very popular among the locals. Other than the natural hot spring main attraction at the Poring Hot Spring, does the 40meters high bridge Poring Treetop Canopy may sound fun and challenge to you?!
Continue to desa farm in afternoon, Desa farm located in Mesilau Plateau Kundasang , about 199 acres, one of the biggest farm in Sabah . About 2100m above sea level, and you will feel cooler air in the farm. Endless farm and lazy walking cow will spot here, cow walk around free and easy like just there are in the wild instead of inside the farm.
